Tour de France Stage 16
The Tour de France is an absolute summer classic. Join here at ProXCskiing.com to get Eurosport’s Roberto Vacchi’s comments before today’s Stage 16.
Tour de France stage 15 saw Jasper Philiosen (Alpecin – Deceuninck) winning the 202.5km race to Carcassonne ahead of Wout Van Aert (Jumbo – Visma) and Mads Pedersen (Trek – Segafredo).
Today, after the third and last rest day, the Tour is back with Stage 16, a 178.5km race day from Carcassonne to Foix.
Stage 16 – Carcassonne to Foix 178.5km
“With the start in Carcassonne and finish in Foix, we can say that it is the kindest of the three Pyrenees stages but also the longest. Although 178 kilometers is not usually counted as a particularly long distance. It starts quite nicely but soon turns into climbing. If the break did not occur before the Col de l’Espinas, it could be brutal for the sprinters already here. They may well lose already in the first or second categorized climb, and if the battle for a place in the breakaway continues, the day can be extra stressful for those with some uphill problems. For all cyclists, we should not expect any big things today, but we can hope that someone thinks the downhill run the last two kilometers is a bit attractive and therefore try something up the Mur de Péguère,” says Vacchi.
The broadcast starts on Eurosport at 12:40. Neutral starts at 12:30. Expected arrival at 16:58.
