Next week’s World Cup event in Falun will be the last of the 2022 season, as the FIS fails to find an alternate organizer for the World Cup final in Tyumen, Russia.

Next week’s World Cup event in Falun will be the last of the 2022 season, as the FIS fails to find an alternate organizer for the World Cup final in Tyumen, Russia.

FIS Cross-Country and various National Ski Federations have tried to find a possible replacement for the cancelled World Cup events in Tyumen, Russia, on March 18 to 20.

The events in Tyumen were cancelled as a part of global sanctions placed on Russia and Belarus in response to the Russian invasion of the Ukraine last week.

However, despite substantial efforts and interest of various National Ski Federations, the FIS has not been able to find an alternate organizer for the World Cup final events.

This means that the scheduled World Cup events in Falun (SWE) from March 11 to 13, will be the final events of the 2021/22 FIS Cross-Country season. The schedule will not be adjusted and follow the originally planned competition formats.

The Falun World Cup opens with sprint races for both men and women on Friday, March 11, followed by 10km and 15km skate races for women and men, respectively, on Saturday, March 12. The Falun World Cup concludes with relays for both men and women on Sunday, March 13.
