While European cross-country skiers are still racing in some of the biggest roller ski competitions of the summer, their South American peers profit from the best snow conditions and racing of their winter season. Check the results from the first weekend of the South American Cup in Bariloche, Argentina.

The Cross-Country Skiing South American Cup 2023 took place in Bariloche, Argentina, on the second week of September. On Thursday 7, the cross-country skiers competed in the 5km (women) and 10km (men) individual race in freestyle technique, and on Friday 8, the 1.3km sprint in classic technique took place.

On Thursday’s 5km individual race in the women’s field, the fastest of the day was Nahiara Diaz Gonzalez (ARG), followed by Maria Cecilia Dominguez (ARG) and Agustina Groetzner (ARG). 

Franco Dal Farra (ARG) won on the men’s field, while Javier Gimenez (ARG) and Mateo Lorenzo Sauma (ARG) completed the podium.

On Friday, Nahiara Diaz Gonzalez (ARG) was the fastest on the women’s 1.3km sprint in classic technique, followed by Maira Sofia Fernandez Righi (ARG) and Agustina Groetzner (ARG) in third place.

The 1.3km sprint men’s podium saw the same winner as on Thursday, with Franco Dal Farra (ARG) being the fastest of the day. Mateo Lorenzo Sauma (ARG) took second place, and Martin Flores (CHI) completed the international podium.

The South American Cup continues with the second week of competitions taking place in Corralco, Chile, on September 23, 24, 27, and 28, with skate sprint and distance races.
