Falun Awarded The 2027 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships

Today in Milan, Italy, the FIS Council elected Falun, Sweden, as the host of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2027.

Falun (SWE) will host the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2027.

As the sole candidate, Falun was appointed as host of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2027.

“It is, of course, great that we will once again host a World Cup on home soil in Falun. Together, sustainable and modern are the keywords that will permeate the entire work up to, during, and after the World Championships in 2027. The World Championships at home should inspire more people to want to ski, but the legacy of the World Championships should also be long-term – for real,” says Karin Mattsson, chairman of the Swedish Ski Association, in a press release.

It will be the fifth time Falun has arranged the FIS Nordic World Championships, with previous editions being held in 1954, 1974, 1993, and 2015.

“It feels great that we get a World Ski Championships to Falun again. I am really looking forward to a new festival and to being able to cheer together with tens of thousands of others,” says Joakim Storck, a municipal councilor in Falun municipality.

There was great cheering and celebration at Stora I Falun, where many had gathered to await the news. To be able to arrange the World Championships in Falun means a lot – both for Ski Sweden and Dalarna.

“At Lugnet, we already have a world-class facility, and the maintenance has worked well. Now that Falun has once again been entrusted with arranging a new World Ski Championships, we can take advantage of the investments made for the 2015 World Championships once more. The conditions are good, and no major investments will need to be made this time,” says Joakim Storck.

The campaign to bring the World Championships to Falun started just over 15 months ago, but there will hardly be any rest. Now the work begins to create the organization and the conditions to invite to another big folk festival.

“I would like to extend a warm thank you to everyone who has implemented and also in various ways supported the campaign. The fact that Falun and Dalarna will host a Nordic World Championships in 2027 means a lot to Swedish skiing,” concludes Karin Mattsson.
