Less Than A Month Until The Südtirol Moonlight Classic Seiser Alm, The Unique Night Cross-Country Race
All cross-country trails on the Seiser Alm have been open since mid-December, so all endurance athletes can already train on the Seiser Alm and explore the race track in advance. On 80 kilometers of perfectly groomed trails with a view of the Lang- and Plattkofel and the Schlern, both beginners and professionals will find the right trails. Stars like Aleksander Bolshunov, Petter Northug, Jessica Diggins, and Therese Johaug have often used the ideal training conditions on the Alpe di Siusi. All trails are groomed for both skating and classic cross-country skiing.
At 8 p.m. on February 3, 2023, things will get serious, and the 15th Moonlight Classic will start. In the glow of the full moon, the participants can choose between two routes: The 30 km long race route leads from the start in Compatsch to Wolfsbühl and in a loop back to the Ritsch. From there, it goes uphill to the Goldknopf, on to Spitzbühl, and then in the direction of Compatsch. The 15 km route also starts in Compatsch and, like the long distance, goes to the Ritsch. Once there, the participants head straight back to the finish in Compatsch. 1,000 torches illuminate the night along the route, and numerous fans cheer on the skiers. A heated tent awaits cross-country skiers and spectators in the finish area, where food and drink will be provided. The group “3 Guat & 2 Schianere” will provide musical entertainment with rock, pop, and blues from the 80s-90s.
The registrations for the Moonlight Classic Seiser Alm have started very well; around 100 participants have already registered. The registration fee until January 15 is 60 euros for the 30 km route or 55 euros for half the distance. Registration is possible directly on the organizer’s website at www.moonlightclassic.info. This year there is again a “Ski & Run” combined ranking for all athletes who finish the Moonlight Classic Seiser Alm and the Seiser Alm Half Marathon on July 2, 2023.
