The first February weekend, the fixed date for the Dobbiaco-Cortina Ski-Marathon, confirms itself for 2024 as one of the highlights of the winter tourist season. To many skiers from Northern Europe who never miss the opportunity to spend a few days in Dobbiaco and Cortina to take part in the most fascinating Ski Marathon in the Dolomites, it will seem a perfect coincidence to enjoy high-quality music right in Dobbiaco/Toblach, where the GMPU Jazz Orchestra feat. Who’s that band?

Thomas Gansch is not only one of the most versatile trumpeters of his generation but also a composer, arranger, pop singer, big band leader, and conductor of wind orchestras. He enthusiastically participates in various projects. In this case, Gansch was invited as an Artist in Residence for the winter semester of 2023/24 at the Jazz Department of the “Gustav Mahler Private University of Music” (GMPU) in Klagenfurt. Over several days, Gansch will conduct workshops for students and collaborate with the “GMPU Jazz Orchestra” to develop a refreshing concert program. This program will be presented on February 2nd at the Euregio Cultural Center in Toblach. The band, with Gansch as the featured soloist, will perform a variety of classics from the big band history as well as his own compositions on stage.
