10th Edition of Engadin La Diagonela, Saturday, January 21st, 2023

Engadin La Diagonela
Register now for the popular race in the Engadin for classic technique! Engadin La Diagonela is Switzerland’s longest cross-country skiing race and the largest in the classic technique.

The event offers a unique experience for top athletes as well as amateur athletes. It leads across the famous Engadin valley past the alpine metropolis of St. Moritz, located at over 1,800m above sea level. The entire event program includes four different races on one day:

  • Engadin La Diagonela, 55 km
  • Engadin La Pachifica, 27 km
  • Engadin La Cuorta, 11 km
  • Engadin La Stafetta, 55 km

Engadin La Diagonela, 55 km (+694m / -740m)

The Engadin La Diagonela course starts from the winter sport-paradise Pontresina on January 21st, 2023. The elite men start at 08.55 am, the elite women at 09.00 am, and the amateurs from 09.03 am.

The racecourse is characterized by a varied profile and alternately leads from forest-free zones through the couped Stazerwald forest and across the frozen lake of St. Moritz.

The course passes the glamorous tourist resort and two-time host of the Winter Olympics, St. Moritz, and leads back to Pontresina via Stazerwald. There, the athletes pass the wildly romantic Val Roseg before turning around and passing through the beautiful patrician village of La Punt-Chamues-ch and on past the Zuoz golf course to S-chanf, the finish of the widely known Engadin Skimarathon. There, the speaker from the finish area in Zuoz can already be heard. But a treat still awaits the participants of Engadin La Diagonela: the ascent towards the finish, the historic village center of Zuoz.

10th anniversary will be celebrated

The Engadin La Diagonela is taking place for the 10th time in 2023. Anders Aukland, 9-time-participant, and a real Ski Classics legend, is already looking forward to this anniversary edition:

I am looking forward to the 10th-anniversary edition of the Engadin La Diagonela as if it would be my first one…but yes, it will be my 10th participation already.”

Arnaud Du Pasquier, ambassador of Engadin La Diagonela and long-time resident in the Engadin valley, is also happy to take part in the 10th anniversary of Engadin La Diagonela.

“La Diagonela is the most important date on the calendar for me. I moved to the Engadin when I was 13, long before the event existed. The finish line is just a few hundred meters from my school. When I take part in La Diagonela, I am cheered on by former schoolmates, teachers, friends, and training colleagues. If I could choose to win a race, I would choose La Diagonela!”

La Diagonela is also considered an official qualifying race for Vasaloppet in Sweden.

Engadin La Pachifica, 27 km (+332m / -378m)

The little sister of the Engadin La Diagonela, the Engadin La Pachifica, also starts in Pontresina. Participants run directly to Zuoz and enjoy the finish in the historic village center of Zuoz. The final climb to the village demands everything from all participants.

Engadin La Cuorta, 11 km (+245m / -192m)

The Engadin La Cuorta is the perfect race for beginners or people who have never participated in a classic race before. It offers the whole package: an attractive course and an unforgettable experience in a familiar and relaxed environment.

Engadin La Stafetta, 55 km (+694m / -740m)

The Engadin La Diagonela track can also be completed as a relay in teams of four. Here, too, a shivering feeling is guaranteed at the finish in the historic village center of Zuoz.
