Wadköpingsloppet
The Ski Classics Challengers event Wadköpingsloppet is taking place this Sunday, February 4, 2024, in Örebro, Sweden.

Wadköpingsloppet, a 40km long-distance skiing event, part of the Ski Classics Challengers series, has long-lasting traditions but has, over the past years, developed into a modern classic race.

It is a perfect event for those who want to prepare for Vasaloppet and gain seeding. The arena is located in Ånnaboda, 15km outside Örebro, easily accessed from most places in mid-Sweden.

The ‘original’ track runs in a scenic undulating forest landscape, but there are also several options to alter the track if needed to adapt to weather conditions, which is the case for the 2024 edition:

“Wadköpingsloppet 2024 will be contested over nine laps on a 4.5km loop entirely on artificial snow. The fact that the race is contested in its entirety on the artificial snow track means that we can offer really nice tracks on a firm and ample layer of artificial snow,” says the Local Organizing Committee on their official website.

According to the organizers, solid names are on the start list:

“Two days left to the Wadköpingslopet. Some exciting names have appeared on the starting list! On the women’s side, we find the Wadköpings specialist Olivia Hansson (8 podium places in the Wadköpingslopet), seasoned Sofia Holmgård (who has run the Wadköpingslopet at least seven times and has always been at the top) and ski coach Emma Dahlgren who makes a very interesting start.

On the men’s side, we can see Gabriel Strid (16th in La Diagonela, 14th in La Venosta ITT), Gustav Eriksson (19th in La Digonela, 19th in Vasaloppet 2023), Magnus Waaler (5th in the Moraloppet, 6th in Vasaloppet China) and the home skier Robert Brundin. So, we can look forward to an exciting race.”

Apart from being part of the Ski Classics Challengers series, Wadköpingslopet is an official seeding race for Vasaloppet and Tjejvasan.
