The second summer camp of Team Edux was held in Åland a few weeks ago and was marked by intense training.

The main emphasis of Team Edux’s camp was quantity training, with 38 training hours during the week covering 550 kilometres on roller skis, 45 kilometres running, and a couple of strength workouts.

“In this camp, we focused particularly on long sessions. During the base training period, it’s crucial to accumulate mileage. Additionally, we included a couple of faster-paced sessions and participated in the Getaloppet roller ski competition,” said Team Edux’s team manager and competitive skier Olli Tyrväinen to Maastohiihto.com.

Many may not consider Åland suitable for skiing, but it’s excellent for summer training. Roller skiers find hilly country roads with calm traffic, and in the northern part, there are even steep ascents available. Team member Isac Holmström calls these hills “treats” and found plenty of them during the camp.

“It’s great to bring the team and high-level training partners to my hometown for training. During summers, I always aim to spend as much time as possible here in Åland, as conditions for roller skiing are excellent. There are plenty of rolling roads, and the asphalt surface is really smooth. Despite skiing 550 km in a week, we didn’t manage to cover all the roads. We had a new route every day, and we accumulated almost a thousand meters of ascent each day,” Isac Holmström explains the advantages of his hometown while continuing the analysis of the team’s training camp:

“It’s hard to achieve such intense training weeks alone, so it’s truly fantastic that Team Edux organizes these camps throughout the year. Our training camps may be challenging, but I believe they will pay off during the winter season. I’m already looking forward to the next camp in three weeks!”

Team Edux’s third summer camp of the season will be in Vuokatti from July 28th to August 4th. The team welcomes all skiers to join them in experiencing long-distance skiing training.
