Last season, the Norwegian national team skier Magni Smedås made successful appearances in Ski Classics and Team Eksjöhus. Ahead of next season, Smedås will change sports and invest in long-distance skiing as the new captain of Team Eksjöhus.

“We get along well, the team and I. The environment around the races, the atmosphere in the group, and the organization around – everything was right. Towards the end of the season, I decided to take the step and invest in Ski Classics together with Team Eksjöhus,” says Magni in a Team Eksjöhus press release.

Smedås showed his great potential during her five appearances in Ski Classics last season. Without specific long-distance training, she took a third and four top 5 places, which even surprised her.

“I had no expectations but quickly realized that long-distance skiing suited me incredibly well. With the right training and conditions, I look forward to discovering my true potential,” says Magni.

The 26-year-old, based in Lillehammer, has made several strong appearances in the World Cup over the years, including an eighth place in the 10km freestyle in Davos 2019.

She finished this season in the absolute top class with third place in the 30km at the Norwegian championships. But now, she is putting the traditional cross-country on the shelf in favor of long-distance skiing.

“In Magni, we get a fantastic person and a fantastic skier with incredible potential for long-distance skiing. The competition in the top tier at Ski Classics is fierce, but together we will do everything to create the best conditions for Magni to reach our goals,” says Espen Trældal, Sports Manager, Team Eksjöhus.
Magni Smedås joins as captain on the women’s side and has high expectations for the coming season.

“I have good capacity, good speed, and endurance. With more specific training, I hope to be able to assert myself at the top and give Ida and Astrid a fight for the yellow jersey next season,” says Magni.
