Sadurni Betriu Boix – Embracing the Challenge: Training and Balancing Life

“I am very happy to be here one year again,” Sadurni shares, reflecting his passion for skiing. His training regimen has been intense, focusing on increasing volume, particularly in mountainous terrains. This year, a significant portion of his training took place in Livigno, Italy, where he spent ten days honing his skills.

Despite facing back problems during the summer, Sadurni’s dedication didn’t waver. He acknowledges the challenges of maintaining his high-level training while managing his responsibilities as a family man and a full-time professional.

“It is not easy to train, compete, travel, and keep a family and full-time job, but my family and working partners help me do this. I am fortunate. It is a hard life, but the pleasure of competing at a high level is worth it,” he says exclusively to Proxcskiing.com.

Recent Achievements: Bad Gastein and La Venosta Season XV

In the beginning of the Ski Classics Season XV, Sadurni showcased his skill and determination in a few events. At the Bad Gastein Criterium, he clocked a time of 1:54:54.8, finishing at the 91st position. His performance at La Venosta was equally commendable, finishing the race at 1:52:53.8 and securing the 81st position. These results demonstrate his capability and resilience in the face of intense competition.

Sadurni’s goals are ambitious yet grounded. “I want to be among the first athletes in Marcialonga and Vasaloppet,” he states. His determination is palpable, especially as he looks forward to the 100th edition of Vasaloppet, seeing it as an opportunity to achieve his best result ever.

As Sadurni points out, long-distance skiing is as much a mental challenge as it is physical. He understands the importance of mental well-being and its impact on performance. Overcoming personal challenges from the previous season is crucial as he aims to succeed in the upcoming races.

Sadurni’s role in his team goes beyond just participation. As a veteran, he brings a wealth of experience, acting as a mentor and a source of inspiration. His value in the team is not just for his skiing prowess but also for the wisdom and guidance he offers. “I am a veteran, and I hope I can help my team with my experience. I feel valorized within the team. They support me and appreciate my opinion,” he reflects.

Despite his success and recognition in Italy, Sadurni wishes for greater recognition in Spain, his home country. He expresses a desire to mentor young Spanish athletes, helping them develop their skills in long-distance skiing.

As he looks ahead, Sadurni acknowledges the changes in his training regimen, focusing more on recovery as he ages. “I do not recover as fast as when I was 25,” he admits. However, his spirit remains undeterred, hoping for a successful season and contemplating the possibility of another season before he concludes his remarkable career.

“If my back allows me, I will be here for this Season and the next one. Then, I’ll finish”.
