The Swedish skier has a string of medals from the World Championships and the Olympics. Last winter, Anna Jönsson Haag skied her first Vasaloppet, and now she has set her sights on her next goal.

Anna Jönsson Haag broke through on the international senior scene in the 2007/2008 season. She took her first World Cup points at the premiere in Beitostølen, where she finished 24th. And then it went fast; the following weekend, she was thirteenth in Ruka, and another weekend after that, she was fifth at the 10km race in Davos.

Just over a decade later, she shelved her focus on the traditional distances. By then, she had added an Olympic relay gold, two Olympic silvers to her trophy cabinet, and four World Championships medals.

But the urge to compete remained; she has been among the top ten in Ski Classics three times.

Last winter, a few months after giving birth to her third child, she raced Vasaloppet for the first time (although she has raced the 90km with a bib before – see the list of all her races in Vasaloppet arena at the end of the article). She finished fifteenth after a solid effort.

Preparations are already underway for more challenges.

“I’m going to premiere at Cykelvasan 90 (cycling) and Ultravasan 90 (running). I’m already excited,” Anna says to Vasaloppet.se.

Why are you participating, and what are your expectations?

“Since I did my first Vasaloppet last winter, it was the perfect opportunity to try to complete ‘Vasatrippeln 90’ and have a goal to train towards this summer. I’m not a great cyclist, so it will be a challenge to dare to stand on, and the run is a challenge just to manage,” says Jönsson Haag to Vasaloppet.

Last winter, Jönsson Haag did four races in Ski Classics with Team Kaffebryggeriet; in addition to Vasaloppet, it was the Drei Zinnen Ski Marathon and Marcialonga. And she has not closed the door for a continuation:

“You should never say never,” says Jönsson Haag.

Jönsson Haag’s former teammate, Team Kaffebryggeriet, however, will be competing in ‘new colors’ for the upcoming winter.
