Fifth Win For Johansson Norgren And Record Time At Tjejvasan
Britta Johansson Norgren, Lager 157 Ski Team, won the 34th edition of Tjejvasan in a sprint finish ahead of Lina Korsgren, Team Ramudden. The race was decided on the sprint when Johansson Norgren was faster than Lina Korsgren over the line. The victory margin was 2.6 seconds, and Johansson Norgren set a new track record with 1:15:39.2.
“It feels great; it was a really fun race,” says Johansson Norgren after his fifth triumph in the race.
“Lina and I kept good speed all the way. But it was nervous as we approached the sprint. Lina is very fast,” Johansson Norgren continues.
Johansson Norgren was following Korsgren for the last kilometers and attacked just before Auklandsbacken (Aukland’s Hill) on her way out of Moraparken and up towards the finish. Korsgren hung on, but Johansson Norgren turned out to be the strongest and fastest at the finish line.
“Lina had been pulling for a long time, so I wanted to go around and ski hard. I was glad that I got into the finish straight first, and then it was just to hope that it would be enough,” says Johansson Norgren in SVT’s broadcast.
Johansson Norgren did not have full control of the race and if it was possible to set a record. But in the end, she broke the track record, winning 50.000 Swedish Krones for the record and 50.000 Swedish Krones for the victory.
“I did not have much control at all, but I noticed that Lina checked the clock, so I knew we could be ahead. I once heard that we were ahead of record time. I am thrilled with how I skied today, but I was not the best technically, but I saw that Lina did not put it ideally either. That was my rescue,” says Johansson Norgren.
Lina Korsgren was not disappointed with the second place.
“It was great fun today. It went as fast as just that,” says Korsgren and continues:
“I really wanted to ski fast today, and it felt excellent from the start, and I had good skis. We did not look at each other, but we led and showed that we are good. Now it was not me who won, but we had to go during the record time and show that we got better.”
The 34th edition of Tjejvasan was a great fight between the two long-distance giants, Britta Johansson Norgren and Lina Korsgren. It also became a new track record with glorious conditions with fast hard tracks and sunshine. The previous record was 1:16:44, and the new one is 1:15:39.
It was a hard race right from the start, and it quickly became a group of ten skiers.
At Gopshus, Korsgren was together with Britta Johansson Norgren, Ida Dahl and Magni Smedås. Towards the sprint prize checkpoint in Hökberg, Johansson Norgren went up in front, increased the speed, and only Korsgren could follow. The duo had just over four seconds down to Smedås, Sömskar, and Dahl at the sprint point.
In Eldris, with 9 kilometers left, Korsgren passed just before Johansson Norgren, and the pursuit trio Smedås, Dahl, and Sömskar were 14 seconds behind.
Johansson Norgren increased the speed on the flat kilometer after Eldris and the distance was extended a few more seconds.
On the way to Mora, the pace was a little higher, and it was clear that Johansson Norgren was waiting to decide Tjejvasan on the sprint finish.
