Challengers Arctic Alta Skimaraton This Saturday In Norway

by Leandro Lutz • 22.02.2023
The Ski Classics Challengers event Arctic Alta Skimaraton is a 42km long-distance race in freestyle technique this Saturday, February 25, in Alta, Norway.

The Arctic Alta Skimaraton is a long-distance skiing race in freestyle technique that starts and finishes close to the city center of Alta, Norway, running through a long loop around the region.

The Event Manager and Ski Classics Legend Petter Eliassen is constantly working to develop the race further:

“We have some big dreams for our ski race. Currently, the course is 42 kilometers long, and that also applies this year. But we are working on putting in place a race that is twice as long, and with a finish in the middle of the city center,” and continues:

“Next year, we plan to extend the course to 50 kilometers, move the race to April and finish in the center of Alta,” says Eliassen.

“The course and the concept of how the course is laid is part of what makes Arctic Alta unique. We have several checkpoints along the trail in small towns where there is good food and atmosphere when the skiers pass. We like to compare ourselves to Marcialonga in that area.”

“The course is unique. It changes all the way, with river crossings, small forests, and open terrain, and goes straight past the spectacular ice hotel Sorrisniva, so you get a nice tour of Alta,” concludes Petter Eliassen.

The Best Moments of Arctic Alta Skimaraton 2022:

The main 42km mass-start event is carried out in freestyle technique and is part of the Ski Classics Challengers circuit. Shorter distances, like 20km, 12km, and relay, are also offered on Saturday. On Sunday, it’s time for the Arctic Alta Fatbike Marathon, 42 and 20km.
