Therese Johaug is back on the international cross-country skiing scene. The Norwegian cross-country skiing star will race in Switzerland in just under two weeks.

It is almost two years since Therese Johaug formally retired from competitive skiing. After the 2022 Olympic season and 15 years at the top of the world, the Norwegian cross-country skiing star announced that she was retiring. Almost a year ago, she became a mother for the first time. And on March 3, Johaug is again ready for a ski race.

The 35-year-old Norwegian will race the 42-kilometer-long Engadin Frauenlauf in Pontresina in Switzerland, a women’s event in the prestigious long-distance Engadin Ski Marathon.

Johaug confirms this on her Instagram account.

Many hope Johaug will return to the World Championships in Norway next winter. She has neither confirmed nor denied any comeback plans, but she has indicated several times that she is tempted to try her hand at the top level again.

Great career

Therese Johaug has four Olympic golds, 14 World Championship golds, and 80 World Cup victories over 15 years. She broke through as an 18-year-old with a surprising bronze in the 30 kilometers during the World Championships in Sapporo in 2007.

The 30km race in Holmenkollen 2022 was her last World Cup at home, and she won it. It was her fifth win there, including the World Championships gold in 2011. In ten previous starts, she has only missed the podium once (fourth in 2008).
